I loved the Typography and Photography projects because I felt they encouraged an intensity that resonated with my working method. I could be drawing from all these sources of inspiration to inform my experimentation and outcome to a greater extent as I could work outside of the studio without having that initial barrier of presenting an idea to a group. I sometimes don’t explain ideas clearly enough which hinders the group work and takes some time to help people envision a final outcome that I’m presenting. This is something I’ll have to work on but I find having a script in a review a good way to stay focused and communicate my idea effectively.
I think I have to mention how the outcome of our timeslot project didn’t answer the brief which we were told first hand in our review. We had lots of different strands of research but we couldn’t tie them down to our time of 20:20 -20:23. I understood our outcome was taking a risk but we’ve since gotten in contact with Zelda to see how we can work off what we had and go forward. I found I had to lead the projects somewhat as people didn’t talk much without me sparking discussion, this was reflected in the review in which I spoke by myself for both of them. At the time this made me question whether I was domineering or steering the projects too much.
I would have liked to have facilitated greater involvement from one of the team members on the Brixton group. I couldn’t understand why but she seemed quite negative within the group environment which was a shame because she had some really good ideas and input. It was hard to take her criticism of our ideas when she didn’t offer anything to work off in return.
All the projects were a great learning experience whether that is through clarity of communication, technically or socially and how to be effective as a member of a group.
